SEATTLE – Washington Head Coach Leslie Gabriel announced two Husky high school commits today on National Signing Day. Julia Hunt, a middle blocker from Kentucky, and Alexis Haury, a setter from Oregon, signed on the dotted line today to officially become Dawgs.
The pair are the first two high school recruits to sign with Gabriel since she moved into the Head Coach role, and they are exactly the types of players that Gabriel wants as Huskies.
“Alexis Haury and Julia Hunt are both extremely talented, relentless competitors, and most importantly good people,” said Gabriel. “Not only do we get two great people in our program, but we add two great families to our Husky volleyball family. We believe this is a special recruiting class for us and we can't wait until they are here on campus.”

Haury is the two-time reigning Gatorade Player of the Year in Oregon, where she attends Silverton High School in Silverton, Ore. She’s the ninth-ranked player in the country at any position according to PrepDig.com and 17th overall according to PrepVolleyball.com, and is the No. 4 setter on both sites. Haury was the 2022 Mid-Willamette Conference Player of the Year.
“Alexis is no stranger to our program as she has been attending our summer camps for the past six years. It was at camp that I remember seeing her play for the first time, noticing her court presence and competitiveness as a middle school player, playing with and against players her own age or older, and I remember thinking if she continues to develop and continues to compete this kid could be a future Husky. It is really cool to see six years later that she is a DAWG!”Coach Gabriel
Hunt, a native of Convington, Ky. Attends Holy Cross High School. On Wednesday, she was named a First Team All-American by the AVCA, and she was recently named 2023 “Ms. Kentucky Volleyball” as the top player in the state by the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association. Hunt has racked up over 2,000 career kills and 500 career blocks. She’s ranked 11th in the national recruiting rankings by PrepDig.com and 23rd by PrepVolleyball.com, and among the top-10 middles in the country.
“Julia is a special player. She embodies true competitiveness in my eyes and it was always a joy for me to go and watch her play. She has great size, a good arm, and a long wingspan that can get over to block balls. However, what sold me was how she competed; she was the same competitor after a good play or a bad play, no matter the score. Julia wants to win and she is willing to do whatever is needed to help her and her team do it. It always seemed like it was about the team and never about her and I love that. Julia has the work ethic, ability, court awareness, and volleyball IQ to be a force at the net for us both as an attacker and blocker. She comes from a family of volleyball players where her mom played and her older sister is currently at Marshall. I am excited to have her as a part of our Husky family.”Coach Gabriel
