Dear Washington,
Thank you for everything you have done for me. When I chose to wear that W on my chest, I knew what I was signing up for. My grandfather loved to share with me his favorite tales of Washington athletics when I was younger. From the epic legacy of Husky crew, to his love and respect for Heather Tarr and what she has accomplished for the program. He was like a walking Husky history book, and I never grew tired of his stories. I loved the sports ones, but even during those stories he would always mention what a privilege it was to receive a Washington education. The true glory of Washington lies in its classrooms.
All those years ago, I had no idea I would be walking through those very classrooms and creating my own legacy one day. Here we are. Washington. I wouldn’t trade my experience for anything. You have shown me nothing but opportunity everywhere I look, and every path I take. In many ways, you remind me of Seattle. Hardworking, progressive, and always at the top of the list when it comes to quality. Fitting that you sit so nicely above the city.
I soldiered through freshman year feeling so alone and small while walking down campus, only to find that you were there next to me the whole time. You are so much more than just a piece of paper with my name on it. You are 4 years of self-discovery and exploration guided by some of the best professors and mentors in the world. You are true friendships that will last a lifetime, and help me weather any storm. You are a magnificent campus with stunning views that I will never grow tired of venturing through. You are what made my college experience so memorable, Washington. You brought to life everything my grandpa told me about you, and asked for nothing in return. Thank you, for everything. I will wear you across my chest with pride as I continue on with my journey, knowing full well that you will always have my back no matter what.
Love,
