SAN FRANCISCO, Calif -- Eight members of the Washington men's soccer team received All-Pac-12 honors on Tuesday from the conference, highlighted by three First Team selections and for the third straight season, the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year.
In addition to being named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, Ryan Sailor was also named to the All Pac-12 First Team for the first time in his career. Sailor anchored a UW defense that kept 10 clean sheets on the season and led the conference and ranked 4th nationally with a Goals Against Average of 0.588. In addition to his stellar defensive efforts, Sailor also tied for the team-high with 6 goals on the season, while adding two assists for 14 points. In the 2021 season, Sailor established himself as the top set-piece threat in the entire country, helping Washington score 17 set piece goals in its last 15 matches.
For the second straight season, both Dylan Teves and Charlie Ostrem were named to the All Pac-12 First Team.
Dylan Teves ranked second in the conference in goals (6), assists (7) and points (19). His 19 points tied a career high and had the first Pac-12 brace of his career on November 4th at UCLA, earning Pac-12 Player of the Week for his performance. His 4 game-winning goals were the most in the conference.
Charlie Ostrem bounced back from an early-season injury to put forth another elite season for the Huskies. His seven assists tied Teves for second in the conference. Ostrem had six assists in Pac-12 competition, which is two more than the next-best player. Ostrem's left-foot is second to none and he has played a crucial role in Washington's success on set pieces this season.
Kendall Burks and Lucas Meek were both named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team for the second straight season.
Kendall Burks was a key cog in the elite Washington defense, starting 16 of 17 games at both center back and right back. He scored 2 goals, including the game-winner at Gonzaga, while adding three assists.
Lucas Meek got off to a torrid start to the season, scoring 9 points in the first three matches, before getting hurt at the end of the Grand Canyon match. He made his official return to the pitch on senior day against Stanford, playing 74 minutes. He would pick up an assist in a 3-0 win at UCLA late in the season to give him double-digit points for the third straight season.
Three more Huskies picked up All-Pac-12 honors, being named Honorable Mention to give UW eight different all-conference members.
Kalani Kossa-Rienzi earned the first All-Pac-12 recognition of his young career, after playing in all 17 matches with 16 starts and totaling 2 goals and two assists. He scored the first goal of his career in a 2-0 win at Portland and added another goal at California. Kossa-Rienzi is a powerful presence in the UW midfield and has proven to be a weapon with his ability on long throw-ins as well.
Nick Scardina also earned his first All-Pac-12 honor after scoring 5 goals and adding an assist, good for 11 points. His 3 game-winning goals were good for second in the conference behind only Dylan Teves. He provided the electric golden goal in OT against Seattle U, scored a man-down goal against Oregon State and scored the only goal of the match in a 1-0 win at San Diego State late in the season.
Christian Soto earns all-conference recognition for the third straight season. He started and played in 15 matches, picking up two assists. Along with Kossa-Rienzi, he helped patrol the midfield for Washington and brings a unique toughness and motor to the Husky lineup.
