This is the first time the Huskies have ever won both Field Athlete of the Week honors in the same week.
Wilson, the Clovis, Calif. native, won the Stanford Invitational shot put invite section with a personal best, going to No. 3 in the NCAA this season with a toss of 19.69 meters (64-7.25). That moved Wilson to tops in the Pac-12 this season and No. 3 in Washington school history with the best mark by a Husky since 1998. Wilson also added a personal best in the discus, throwing 53.79 meters (176-6) for third in the collegiate section.
It was the first competition for Wilson since wrapping up a breakout indoor campaign that saw him throw a best of 63-4 in the shot, which ranked 22nd nationally.
Gruver, the two-time NCAA Champion who transferred to UW this season, cleared 15-6 1/4 on Friday at the Stanford Invitational, bettering the former record by half an inch that was held by 2016 Olympic Silver Medalist Sandi Morris. Gruver's clearance also shattered the Pac-12 record by over five inches, and the UW school record by 13 inches.
A native of Reisterstown, Maryland, Gruver's previous outdoor PR was 14-11, which she made when winning the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships. She owns a higher indoor PR of 15-3 3/4 set at the 2018 SEC Indoor meet.
Wilson is the first Husky men's thrower to win Pac-12 Field Athlete of the Week honors since Will Conwell in 2006. The last women's pole vaulter to win the weekly award was Kristina Owsinski in 2015, whose school record was broken by Gruver last Friday.
Washington hosts Washington State this Saturday at Husky Outdoor Track for the annual UW-WSU Dual Meet.
