LONG BEACH, Calif. – Washington was on the good side and the short side of two 4-1 decisions today as it returned to action for the first time in nearly two weeks, as the Huskies (4-4) fell short to No. 9 Long Beach State in their first match of the day but then defeated Colorado Mesa in their next dual.

Cat McCoy and sophomore
Samantha Drechsel were 2-0 on the day for the Dawgs as they were the only pair to prevail against Long Beach State. They won both matches at the No. 3 spot, beating LBSU's Koelsch and Stevens in a three setter, 15-21, 22-20, 15-12, and then cruising to a 21-10, 21-8 win over Mesa's Dixon and Crane.

Kristen Gengenbacher were 1-1 at the top spot and
Kara Bajema and
Shayne McPherson were 1-1 at the No. 2 spot.

The Huskies tried a few combos at the four and five spots.
Callie Weber and
Chloe Newton got the one win of the day in those positions as they won at No. 5 against Colorado Mesa by a 21-6, 21-8 count.

Tomorrow the Huskies will play another double-header, taking on Cal State Bakersfield and Nebraska.
