SAMMAMISH, Wash. – The University of Washington Women's Golf team finished fifth at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational on Wednesday. The Huskies posted a 46-over 622 (304-318) at the Sahalee Country Club, in what was supposed to be a 54-hole event that was shortened to 36 due to weather issues on the course on Tuesday.
"It was just a frustrating week all around for us," said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "We need to have a good hard look at ourselves and try to regroup before our next competition. We're a talented group so there's no issues there we just need to find a way to get back to having fun like I know we can."
Junior Rino Sasaki led the pack for the Dawgs, finishing tied for 13th place with a 9-over 153 (76-77). She remained consistent throughout the tournament, posting three birdies and recording just a one stroke difference between her two rounds. Sasaki hasn't finished outside of the top 15 this season, making it three-straight today.
Senior Alice Duan tied Wednesday's the best second round for UW, climbing 12 spots in the leaderboard into a tie for 22nd place. She finished with a 12-over 156 (79-77).
Behind Duan by just one stroke were freshman Brittany Kwon and sophomore Martha Lewis, who each finished tied for 26 at 13-over 157.
Freshman Winnie Ng impressed with five total birdies, the most of any Husky and tied for fourth-most during the two-round competition. She finished with a 14-over 158 (76-82) and a 31st place tie overall in the tournament.
Up next, the Huskies travel to Louisville October 18-20, to compete in the Cardinal Cup.
