
Burr-Kirven Named Semifinalist For Lombardi Trophy

HOUSTON – Washington's Ben Burr-Kirven has been named one of 23 semifinalists for the 2018 Lombardi Award.
The Lombardi Award, formerly given to defensive lineman or linebackers, is now presented to a college football player, regardless of position, based on performance, as well as leadership, character, and resiliency. Finalists will be announced Jan. 7 after the CFP National Championship Game and the award will be presented Friday, Jan. 25 in Houston.
Burr-Kirven, a linebacker from Menlo Park, Calif., led all of FBS players with 176 tackles on the season. The senior All-American was both the Pat Tillman Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year and Football Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Washington's Steve Emtman won the Lombardi Trophy in 1991, and Hau'oli Kikaha was one of four finalists for the award in 2014.
