"I'm really excited about this class," Murray said. "These guys will have an immediate impact and are thrilled to become Huskies. They are all very talented guys that want to play at the highest level and are really good students on top of that. So they will make our team better on and off the golf course. They are good human beings and represent our program really well. They are also great competitors which is really excited to see as a coach."
PAUL MARGOLIS
Mougins, France
Lycee Jacques Audiberti
Paul Margolis joins the Huskies from Mougins, France where he attended Lycee Jacques Audiberti. He was a member of the Country Club Cannes-Mouginings. Back in February, Margolis placed seventh overall at the Cape Province Open Championship at the Kingswood Golf Estate in South Africa. He opened the tournament with a low-round of 65 and finished at 8-under 280 (65-74-70-71).
"Paul is a really talented athlete," said Murray. "He has been a super junior player for a number of years and displays a lot of leadership qualities in a team environment that will contribute greatly to our success moving forward. I am excited to have him be a part of our program and he has the opportunity to be very successful. His competitive nature will serve him well during his college golf career and its great he will be a Husky."
PADRAIC SIM
Spanish Fort, Alabama
Spanish Fort HS
Padraic Sim comes to Seattle from Spanish Fort, Alabama where he attends Spanish Fort High School. Among his many honors, Sim won the 2017 Alabama Boys State Junior Championship title thanks to a final-round 8-under 64. He recorded birdies on the final two holes to secure the championship with a 14-under 202.
"Padraic is a very ambitious and talented kid. His work ethic is exceptional and he is someone I have been aware of for a few years now," said Murray. "He keeps getting better and I think he will be a major contributor to our program in the coming years. He will make those around him better also with his tremendous energy, competitive will and qualities as a teammate. I am excited he is coming to Washington."
Nicolas Schellong
Havirov, Czech Republic
Havirov School
Rounding out the trio is Nicolas Schellong, who hails from Havirov, Czech Republic. Schellong attended Havirov School and is currently ranked No. 80 in the European Golf Rankings while playing for the Celadna Golf Club. He has placed in the top 20 in 10 European Amateur tournaments this year including a third-place finish at the European Nations Cup in Spain this past March.
"Nico is a really intelligent, determined, talented and hard-working kid and embodies a lot of great qualities we look for," said Murray. "He has represented his country on numerous occasions and has played in numerous top class tournaments during his competitive golf career to date. He will add a great deal to our program and we are excited he is going to be a Husky. I am looking forward to him getting to UW and watching him develop as a person and as a golfer. I have no doubt he will make our team better."
The UW men's golf team wrapped up its fall season last week with a solid showing at the Warrior Wave Invitational hosted by the University of Hawaii, posting a 16-under 848 to finish tied for 10th. The Huskies return to action January 29-30, taking part in the Arizona Intercollegiate.
