MEADOW VISTA, Calif. - University of Washington junior Corey Pereira repeated as the Sierra Players Invitational Champion Wednesday as he finished with a three-round score of 13-under 203. Pereira, who is ranked 10th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, took home the title for the second-straight year and outdid his competition by six strokes.
Fresh off of finishing tied for fourth at the Northeast Amateur Invitational, the GolfWeek All-American opened the event with a 3-under 68 before firing the best round of the tournament over the next 18 holes, with a 7-under 65. Pereira finished the tournament, which is in its second year, with a 2-under 70 to repeat as the individual champion.
The 54-hole championship was played at the Winchester Country Club in Meadow Vista, Calif., and featured a wealth of amateur players. Pereira was one of three players to post sub-par scores in every single round and was one of just two players to post two sub-70 rounds.
