TULSA, Okla. – Three Huskies finished up play in the qualifying draw today at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Sophomore Jake Douglas began the day by beating Nikita Lis of Lamar 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. He will face Florida's Gordon Watson Tuesday the 6th, in a match featuring two nationally ranked student-athletes.
“It was great to be back in action today,” said head coach Matt Anger. “Jake did a super job and persevered in a tough three setter.”
Fellow sophomore Mitch Stewart fell to Dominic Cotrone of South Florida 6-2, 6-2, while freshman Enzo Sommer also failed to advance, losing to Texas' George Goldhoff 6-4, 6-4.
“Mitch didn't play poorly, but his opponent was on fire,” said Anger. “Enzo got his first taste of college tennis and while he didn't win, he showed a lot of good things that will lead to wins this year.”
Douglas will look to extend his stay in Oklahoma tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. pacific.
