SEATTLE – Saturday and Sunday at Alki Beach in West Seattle will bring the biggest home matches in the five-year history of the Washington Beach Volleyball program. The Huskies will be at Alki for the only time this season to take on No. 4 USC, No. 13 California, No. 14 Stanford, and Oregon as part of the inaugural Pac-12 North Invitational.
The format will be five matches each day, with every team playing each other one time. The first match both days will start at 10 a.m. and a new match will get underway every hour, with the final match scheduled to start at 2 p.m. each day. All five matches of every dual will be going concurrently on five courts.
Washington (8-9) will be playing the first match on Saturday at 10 a.m. against California (17-4) and then at 12 noon the Huskies will face two-time defending NCAA Champion USC (17-8).
Sunday the Huskies will start at 11 a.m. against Oregon (2-4), and then they will play the weekend's final match, starting at 2 p.m., against Stanford (13-9).
The Pac-12 North Invitational is following the Pac-12 South Invitational back on Mar. 24-25 that USC hosted in Santa Monica, Calif. Results from both invites will help determine the seeding for the Pac-12 Championships, coming up in just over two weeks at Stanford on Apr. 26-28.
UW faced Stanford and Cal at the Pac-12 South Invitational, and will be looking to even up the season series against them after the Bay Area schools won the first meeting. It will be the first time the Huskies have seen the Trojans and Ducks on the other side of the net this year.
Washington has played just two previous matches at Alki Beach, defeating Oregon in a match played there in 2016 and getting a win over Boise State there in 2017.
The Huskies spent last week in Honolulu where they took runner-up honors at the Queen's Cup, falling in the championship match to third-ranked Hawaii. The Dawgs got their second win this season in three meetings with 16th-ranked Loyola Marymount. Eight of Washington's nine losses have come against teams ranked in the AVCA Top-20.
