Early Runs Bite Huskies In 2-0 Series Finale Loss
March 19, 2018 | Softball
TEMPE, Ariz. – The #1 Washington Huskies lost a nail-biter 2-0 to the #10 Arizona State Sun Devils in the series finale Monday. The only runs of the game came in the first inning as Taran Alvelo dominated much of the game once again but the Huskies just couldn't find the big hit needed. Washington is 29-2 on the year and 1-2 in the Pac-12 after today's game.
Arizona State's only runs came on a double down the rightfield line that was ruled to have bounced over the first base bag, ending up a fair ball by the slimmest of margins. Alvelo, who struck out six in the game, was almost perfect after that, retiring 11 in a row between the second and sixth inning and allowing only two other batters to reach scoring position.
Trysten Melhart had two of Washington's four hits in the game, bouncing singles up the middle in the third and sixth inning. Taylor Van Zee and Julia DePonte would also add hits in the game.
