Tarr Sets Win Record With 15-3 Triumph Over Saint Louis

PEORIA, ILL. – The Washington Huskies rolled to a big 15-3 win over Saint Louis in the first game of their opening day doubleheader. Five different Huskies drove in multiple runs in the game. The win was Heather Tarr's 533^rd with Washington, giving her the all-time program wins record.

Tarr has won at least 30 games every season of her career and has won over 35 eight consecutive seasons. The Huskies have been to five Women's College World Series under her watch, winning the 2009 national championship.

Samantha Manti picked up the win, striking out five in four innings of work for her first win of the year. Gabbie Plain also saw work in the circle, picking up two strikeouts in her inning.

Van Zee and Sis Bates each scored four runs in the game, with neither being retired all game long. Each would homer in the game: Van Zee launched a homer to centerfield in the first at-bat of the game while Bates had a two-run shot in the fourth.

Noelle Hee and Taryn Atlee each drove in runs in their first two at-bats as Huskies. Hee had an RBI groundout in the first and an RBI single in the second. Atlee picked up one RBI with a single in the first and two more with another single to right.

Notes

This was the first game batting leadoff in the career of Van Zee (2x2, 4 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI). Her home run to start the game was the first such homer by UW since Ali Aguilar's on May 20, 2016 against Michigan.
Van Zee last reached base in every plate appearance (min. 4) on February 15, 2016 against UNLV. She went 4-for-4 with four runs and two doubles in that game.
This was DePonte's (1x2, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB) first start in the outfield since 2016. She has hit .336 with 28 runs, eight doubles, seven home runs, and 34 RBI as an outfielder.
The Huskies are now 13-1 in season openers under Tarr, winning their last 12.
Washington had five stolen bases in the game, their most since stealing six against Howard on March 1, 2015.
Rachel Ogasawara (1x3, 2 RBI) had her first career multi-RBI game.
The 15 runs scored matches Washington's season high from 2017 (March 10 vs. Penn State)

The Huskies will be back in action with two more games tomorrow, starting with a 7:00 am PT game against Miami (OH). Washington will also play Western Illinois at noon.
