The Friends of John Mackey have release the 2016 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List and Washington senior Darrell Daniels is among 45 of the nation’s top tight ends on the initial list.
NEW YORK – The Friends of John Mackey have release the 2016 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List and Washington senior Darrell Daniels is among 45 of the nation's top tight ends on the initial list.
Given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end, the award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee. The 2016 Mackey Award recipient will be announced on December 7, 2016 and then presented live on December 8, 2016 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
Daniels will try to join former Husky Austin Seferian-Jenkins (2013) as recipient of the award, which has been presented since 2000.
Daniels, from Pittsburgh, Calif., played in all 13 games as a junior in 2015. He made 19 catches for 250 yards and recorded one touchdown. The 6-foot-4, 237-pound senior made at least one catch in each of Washington's final six games.
For his career, Daniels has played in 35 games, making 30 receptions for 421 yards and two touchdowns.
